For the exchange, convergence, and understanding of cultures among Korea, China, and Japan, Suncheon (Korea), Shaoxing & Dunhuang (China), and Kitakyushu (Japan) have been selected as the Culture Cities of East Asia 2021.

Kitakyushu is the northernmost city on the island of Kyushu. It was established in 1963 when five cities integrated on equal terms by Japanese law. It boasts excellent technology as a manufacturing city.
