Cultural Exchange Overview

1. Background and Purpose

1.International exchange projects in each cultural field are constantly on the rise, but there is a lack of information on the current status of those projects.
2.There is a need for gathering and organizing information on the scale, field, and methods of international cultural exchange within the country to have an accurate overview and set appropriate policies.
3.The 2017 Promotion Act on International Cultural Exchange was developed with this goal in mind, providing a legal obligation for the review of international exchange projects in culture
4.In February 2017, The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism conducted a test review of all organizations and agencies with a record of international cooperation and exchange activities in culture in 2016.
5.The government will continue to regularly conduct such reviews and share the results as a basis for fundamental content in setting the direction for policies promoting international cultural exchange.

2. Review Outline

This review was conducted on the e-mail records and through direct visits to organizations and agencies that engaged in international cultural exchange activities and projects in 2016. As there was no pre-existing database, a pilot review project was conducted in order to create an initial list.
